Default Air Filter Location?

Anyone have any interesting locations for the air filter on a 5.0? Seems as if length of tubing I have is too short and causes turbulence with the IAC so I have a slight idle problem. Any suggestions/pics would be great!

I don't have any good pictures of my cold air intake system, But in the last 2 pictures here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/288493...a-mx-5/page-6/ you can see that the MAF is connected to a pre-formed silicone elbow http://www.siliconeintakes.com/ which is attached to a short run of 3.5" diameter flex ducting Purchased from Aircraft Spruce CEET AIRCRAFT DUCTING from Aircraft Spruce . A 4" diameter hole was cut through the fender apron with a hole saw. The edges of the hole were covered with door edge molding Cowles Products/18 ft. black edge trim (T5602) | Door Edge Molding | AutoZone.com . A short section of 3.5" diameter exhaust tubing passes through the hole at an angle & is attached to the apron by 2 L-shaped tabs that are welded to it. In the pictures you can sort of see the pipe (which is painted red) with the duct attached under the headlight assembly. Some of the right front headlight mounting bracket had to be trimmed for clearance, & all cut areas were covered with the door guard material to avoid chaffing of the ducting. For the filter I used a large K&N cone style K&N RF-1004 K&N Round Tapered (Cone) Universal Air Filters. This filter has a 10 degree rubber mounting flange that slides over the piece of exhaust tubing & is secured with a hose clamp. The other end of the filter is equipped with a stud that I used to secure it to a custom made bracket fabricated from some 1" flat stock via a wing nut. Shrouding was made out of plastic from inner fender splash shields that I found at work for free as well as the rubber sheeting found in the upper control arm area of some vehicles. The goal is to seal off all hot air from entering the "box" that you are creating around the filter. Keep in mind that I have the Racing Beat II bumper & the low-profile lights which may allow me more space for this. Also, the mounting flange on the 80mm MAF was cut down by around 1/2" to allow hood clearance.

IAC should care less about tube length. Maf on the other hand might be. What is you idle problem? What does it do?

The shop where I dyno tuned is said that the because the tube length is so short that when the air gets sucked in that it causes turbulence at the IAC which contributes to the rough idle. Now, it isn't horribly bad, but not real smooth.

You think i will run into problem with that?

Have 2" of tube in the filter to help the air flow.

I don't think it will get a lot of cool air mounted there especially with the hood resting on it.

The air will be route via the cowl hood...

Mine is behind the front bumper, I drove it in the rain and thru a rather deep puddle (approx. 9" deep, in Southern California no less) sucked up water and hydro-locked the motor, thinking of going to a more standard location, how much does the cold air intake help anyway?
