Track video!!!!!
I think the cutouts really helped the sound. Also, no cooling issues! The Evan's coolant went up to about 240 and stayed there no matter how hard I flogged it. The oil temps went up to about the same so I may want to look at some better ducting to my oil cooler. At the end of the "bowl" (the part of the track the stock cars race on) I was consistently hitting 125 before braking. It's amazing, but the engine and the course were such that once I got it up to 4th gear I never had to shift.

Thanks -$3 bolt and AC fan relocate
Here we are, the "official" MRM Monster Miata Transmission crossmember mod:
I did this because i noticed that while under the car with everything bolted in and tight I could still push the tail of the trans up and down a bit under a quarter inch. The Monster Miata crossmember is very strong but due to being constructed of just steel stock can, at times, become a leaf spring of sorts. The goal was to eliminate the up and down movement.
Although I was originally going to construct a much more elaborate brace for the other side (the other side does not make direct contact with the floor like the passenger side does), I am so satisfied with the results of just bracing this side that I doubt I'll ever try to tackle it. My car is running at a bit over 11:1 and really was not comfortable to slug around under 2500 rpm's. With this mod I can cruse through town at 1000 rpm's without any slop what so ever.
I have to give credit for the inspiration behind this mod to the builder of the Monster 427 track Miata Martin had for sale a few years ago. A customer of ours had purchased it (with a very used pullout Mustang 302 in it at that point) and brought it to us to "upgrade" it with a new MRM331R engine. The original builder of the car had built his own transmission crossmember which incorporated a bolt on each side similar to what I did.
All in all this has been the best $3.00 or so I have ever spent upgrading the car. I highly recommend doing it if you experience the shifter moving while at a low rpm. The best part of it is you can literally drive to Ace hardware, pick up the parts you need, drive home, drill a hole and bolt it up in an afternoon or less.

Thanks for the tip on the bolt!...and the earlier piece on moving the fans from pushers to pullers. A friend of mine mentioned his cooling issues were resolved after that change. If you don't mind expanding upon your heating issues and resolution, I'd be grateful. I'm not sure how to re-mount the fans properly with martin's kit.
I'm a complete newbie. I just picked up a clean 95 R-package 4 weeks ago. I'm doing a lot of reading this winter and I will tackle the first phase in the spring.

I'm at 20K miles and 5 years on the conversion so I decided to do a "real" lapping day with the car. This particular event was an "open track" event which gave me the potential for 8 hours of on-track time if I wanted it. I did about 5 hours and 275 miles on track. Here's some pics but I'll have a video up later:

I highly recommend one of their event to anyone within distance of Pocono Speedway. The only real caveat to going to one of their events is that you have to have already been "solo"ed by another organization before they will let you on track.

If there is enough moisture left anywhere in the system to condense into water droplets (even a very small amount of residual water vapor can do it), the droplets can cause hydrolock in the compressor and ruin it. A dryer is very inexpensive, high value insurance.

I noticed that also. I was wondering why Keith at FM had four on his car and this might explain it. Would seem there is quite a bit of air getting pushed under the hood. May need more ability to release it (?). Or is it just air getting under the front lip pushing it up?

Right, but most people only use 2 hood pins. And FM themselves only use two on their current builds. I've reached out to Keith since i'm about to go to the same air intake and will putting in the hood pins too.

The hood lifting only happens above 100 and can not be seen from the driver's seat. Keith claims it's the fault of the hood pin location but it can be fixed by making the front hood seal better. I had a better seal on there but it ended up dislodging and getting eaten by my belt about three laps in.
I'm planning on working on replacing the seal. If it still lifts I may go for a single additional aero catch in the middle .
