302 Rebuild Kit?
Anyone have any tips suggestions with rebuild kits? I've got a 302 block that has stock internals and would like to go 40 over. Any suggestions or warning about some kits that are out there? I do have the GT-40 heads, explorer upper and lower intake and am thinking of a trick flow stage 1 cam. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Have a good machine shop check your heads, block, & crank first. They can tell you what you need. It may be cheaper to purchase your rebuild kit through the machine shop.
The last 5.0 that I freshened up (rings, gaskets, main & rod bearings, oil pump, & timing chain), I got my parts from Summit Racing. I sent the heads to the machine shop, along with my new valve stem seals that came in my gasket kit, for a valve job. I also used a Ford 1 piece oil pan gasket & Ford valve cover gaskets because they are far better than anything else that I have found.

There's a few "freshening" kits you can get through Summit or Jegs. Unfortunately, it looks like they've stopped selling balanced 306 assemblies in favor of 331's. So, keep in mind that if you go the added step over freshening and rebore it to 306 you are going to have to get a shop to balance it for you (about $250 or so).
