Grand Marquis 5.0
Whats the deal with the 5.0's that were used in the Grand Marquis's? I could probably get my hands on one for free and figured this would at the very least be a good bottom end to modify.

Same block, different cam, intake manifold faces opposite direction, Heater pipe different, front accessory drive system different, standard rotation water pump, & the crankshaft may not have a provision for a pilot bearing. Other than that, they are the same.

the reason i say better they were less beat up.....for the t5 you need to instal pilot bearing, would use the for racing front cover,
would replace cam, find gt40 intake and heads on the cheap...
i bought a grand marguis with 50k, for 2 bills yanked motor out got 4 bills fron u pick.......a few years back, also some lincons have the 5.0 ,

So the crankshaft didn't have to be changed? I was thinking if I had to replace the upper end as I planned and if the crankshaft wouldn't work either then an explorer engine on ebay was starting to look like a better way to go. The GT40 intakes are pretty cheap on ebay, then I just need to pick up some heads and a cam. I would imagine the wiring harness would work with the mustang computer with a little lengthening/shortening since the intake is opposite, right?

They quit using the 5.0 in the Panther platform cars (Town Car, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis) in 1990. That is the only year that came with a MAF (mass airflow sensor). All others were "speed density" cars. If you want a wiring harness, get a MAF harness.

there a ford racing efi harness that will save you time wiring,5 bills

i would just use the short block,
would use cheap aluminum heads,5 bills gt40 intake, and ford racing front cover,m8501-a50
2 bills , gives you a few more inches,
on my build building a 347, i think certain things you can use used, certain things get new, not a big fan of twenty year old harness.........our hobby not cheap,
what you using for cross member,

The 5.0 in Grand Marquis is an SFI not a HO. The pistons will be a problem if you want to get any larger than a stock cam. (Cast flat tops w/ no valve reliefs). I think you could find a better donor, unless you just want the block as the heads and pistons will not let you make alot of power N/A and don't really like boost. Heads will be E6 and would need a better cam. Block can be used with stock mustang cam and E7 heads.
