Help: Remote reservoir pwr steering pump?
Hi all,
hoping to get a recommendation for a remote reservoir power steering pump for my supercharged 331 SBF. As you can see, the current setup is a standard pump with attached reservoir that involves an ugly bend to clear the Kenne Bell pulley shaft and some JB Weld to keep the fluid on the inside. Now that I'm turning attention to aesthetics, this has gotta go. I've looked up options, of course, and there seem to be a bunch out there but I'm looking for recommendations / advice based on real-world application.
Many thanks!
Darren

I am not totally sure of what Kenne Bell set-up you are using. Is that a Fox-body front drive system or SN95?
I am using the Mazda Miata power steering pump on mine with a KB "Blowzilla" and Fox-body front drive with A/C. The P/S actually runs off of a separate v-belt from the crank. (Monster Miata kit)
I was the power steering technician for a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer during the heyday of those P/S pumps and have repaired and replaced thousands of them. I can only recall 2 styles of reservoirs for that style pump, neither of which will help you. With your pump mounted as high as it appears, I don't think a remote-style pump would feed it well unless the reservoir was mounted higher than the pump. I would suggest trying to lower and/or rotate the mounting of the pump to obtain the clearance that you need. You are probably already pretty close to the drivers side frame rail as it is.
