Default Radiator Fan Mounting

Good Morning:

I am just fitting my radiator fans and was wondering if anyone can see any problems with this setup. I have read about cooling issues so I would like to do it right the first time. I made up a few supports for the fans and it would be easy enough to put some cowling around them. I just don't know if it is required. I don't really feel comfortable about blocking the front of the radiator either.

(This is a no A/C car so I don't have the condenser to worry about.)

Thanks for any words of wisdom...

Denis.

If you are mounting them as "pushers", ditch the shroud. If mounting as "pullers", I would probably ditch the shroud or add some rubber flaps (trap doors) to it. I did not use the 2 center support/mounting straps that you have. The flanges on the fans are designed to accept hex head bolts for mounting. I bolted the 2 fans together & bolted the outside mounting points to a piece of angle stock. My goal was to restrict as little airflow as possible.

Tbone:

Thanks for confirming what I thought, they will be pushers so I will lose the shroud. I was thinking of putting just one larger aluminum strip down the middle for support. Are your fans solid or do they move around a little without the center support?

I noticed your old #69 in the background, very nice, FFR? I built FFR6390 in 2009 and had a blast in it (347, 425 HP/415Tq, T5, 8.8). I found the FFR was too much of an attention getter. I decided to try and fly under the radar and have a few more creature comforts. Good for you to be able to hang on to both.

I installed 2 bolts in the center flanges & epoxied the 2 fans together. They are very solid.

Actually the Cobra is ERA505 that I assembled in 1997 with a Ford FE engine, Top-loader 4-speed & Jag differential.

Just wondering on the shroud. Is it a benefit if they were pullers but not as pushers?

Ya, I think as pullers it would far more beneficial, I just don't think I will have the room.

FYI, Martins latest fans are only 2" deep.
