Turning key for the first time
Gonna try to fire her up today. Intalled the distributor at TDC, hooked up spark plug wires, and connected my engine block ground. Everything looks to be in order.
Time to add fluids and give it a shot.
2 questions:
1- The exhaust piping is not there yet, so should I connect the O2 sensors and let them hang or just leave the open plugs hanging?
2- Where do the Miata transmission wires connect to? I believe they are a set of reverse wires and a set or neautral wires?

Looks like I answered my own question for the reverse and neutral switches. Found a diagram that shows the locations. The neautral switch is the forward plug hanging on the tranny. The reverse switch on my tranny has a plug in it. Looks like I need to go buy a switch to get my reverse lights to work. Are either of these switches polar, or can wires be reversed and still work?

The backup light wires will plug right into the T5 backup switch. It has to be there otherwise you'd have a big hole in the side of your trans. The neutral switch does not have to be hooked up but it does need to be jumped at least. I'd leave the 02 sensors off. They have heating elements that could contact something if they are just hanging. The ECU will be running in test mode the first time you start it anyhow so any data coming from them (and the Mass air meter) will be ignored. Because of this, make sure you disconnect the battery and let the ECU wipe it's KAM after you run it this way so that it does not try to incorporate the erroneous O2 data it’s going to accumulate while running the first time into its tune the second time you start the car.
