Finally got her to the track for the first autocross of 2015!
It was a great day of racing but everything about this event was really weird starting with the only reason I went was to try and get my brakes to fail. No really I’ve spent the last 2 weeks in mad scientist mode building brakes using components from 5 different cars and this was the test run to find any weak points. https://www.v8miata.net/v8-miata-bra...try-home-2120/ BTW the answer is they worked flawless and soooo much better than 96 Miata brakes
Anyway weird #2 was I had my 15 year old neighbor boy with me so I had to be responsible all day. Weird #3 was the band played a double header Friday and Saturday so I was operating on about 6 hours of sleep split between the 2 nights. Weird #4 was the course was super short and about as dull as watching paint dry. And weird #5 is it was certainly not dry for the last run group!
Now have I to admit when I looked at the video last night I was kind of embarrassed to have the Flyin Miata logo on the car and represent team V8 Miata. I really think my driving has gone downhill for the last couple of events I’ve been to. The good news is everyone above me apparently cared because the top 2 came on trailers with race rubber and the 2 GTRS were both running 100 tread ware NT01 autocross tires. So for me to come so close on 300 tread ware street tires to these guys made me feel a bit better.
But still it’s NOT pretty. Too bad we don’t get entertainment points for 100 foot burnouts and playing roller derby with cones or I would have nailed this one!
I managed to forget my memory card for one of the cameras so I did something a little different with the video and just posted a full run clip. I’d like to say this is my best and worst run but, well, you’ll see…
BTW that fasted time of the day is a 06 Miata with fatcat suspension and race rubber. No engine work, tuning, race seats or anything like that just the smoothest most consistent driver you have ever seen. It is and always will be a drivers game!
