Default It's the driver stupid!

I just got the results from yesterdays run and was reminded again that it doesn't matter what you drive and why everyone should try autocrossing it least once. Check it out.

This is a pretty stock 1990 Miata that had a whopping 110 hp new.
Total invested into the car 3000 bucks and his time was 68.272

This is a 1996 Miata on SM racing suspension, giant tires and a 425 hp V8. (Side note the bling is on from a car show the day before I don’t usually run this way)

Total invested, well I stopped counting at 15K and my time was 68.083.

Hold on here are you saying that monster only beat the pipsqueak by 2 10ths of a second? Yeah that was 12 grand well spent! Lets move on.

This is a purpose built good guys autocross race car. Most of the car is carbon fiber with a 700 hp LS7 and race rubber at least a foot wide.
He has more in just the engine than the other 2 cars combined and his time was 68.255. In case you are not keeping track that is less than 2 one hundredths faster than the $3000 Miata.

You see the pattern here? It’s all about the driver! The best driver in the worst car can beat the worst driver in the best car any day. Still don’t believe me? How about a 2004 Forester?

Yeah that would be an enormous box that ran a 66.350. It must be handy to destroy a BIG buck race car on Sunday and take your kids to school on Monday in the same car.

So you see it doesn't matter what you show up in just that you show up! Seriously it is the most fun you can legally have with any car and dirt cheap to boot.

And I really do mean ANY car!

If you want to see why pipsqueek kept up with me here's the video. It aint pretty but at least it has a good sound track! As usual I put some funnies at the end so hang in there or jump ahead.

Thanks for sharing - I would have lost a bet on how you, the red NA, and the purpose-built Camaro would have stacked up!! Great video too.

Long live 1.6L Miatas!!!!!!!!
