Default Gear Ratio Question? 50 MPH @ 3000RPM in 4th Gear

Hi, Just picked up my V8 Miata. The Speedometer said 50 MPH & the Tach said 3000 RPM....just curious. Seems to have a lot of Bottom End. Thanks

There are plenty of gear calculators available on the web. Plug in tire size and rpm and you'll get expected speed. With a 24" tire, that should put you somewhere around 4.11 rear gears.

And that's assuming the speedometer is close to accurate. Check your odometer on the highway first. Does the odometer click off 10 miles after 10 miles of measured driving? Probably not. But at least you'll know about how far off it is.

I was guessing it was pretty deep. We'll throw it up on the rack & check tire/driveshaft revolutions. Thanks.
