Default Shifter advice

I am running a 5.0 Ford/ T5 WC. The shifter is sloppy. I am looking for advice on a better shifter. The kit is Martin Wilson's Monster Miata setup. The car is primarily a street car with a few track days.

I have been happy with the Pro 5.0 shifter that I installed. I had to grind down the MM shift lever to clear the turret on it though.

I went with the unAmerican Chinese knock off of the Pro5.0. At $35 on eBay compared to $200+ for the real thing I couldn't resist. I'm not proud of myself.

It is however an awesome shifter that, when new, was comparable to a Pro5.0. Three years and 13,000 Pennsylvania miles later though it’s starting to get a slight rattle.

I'm not sure if you can still get them on eBay for $35. I know latemodelrestoration has them for around $60. To make it work I had to elongate the holes in Martin's shift lever adapter.

The stock shifter is crap.

T-bone- thanks for the quick response. One more question. Can the install be done from inside the car? I will be taking the interior out to install Flyin Miata frame rails and I was hoping to do the shifter at the same time. As an aside- just installed Boss Frog Arms before running at Fontana. An amazing improvement in stability and positive control.
Pics of my car are labelled 302 Miata. Thanks again.

You should be able to install it from the top. I had to re-use the t-5 dust boot. It was tricky to get it to fit over the larger shifter turret, but do-able.

It depends on how close the two front bolts are to the the tunnel. You may have to loosen the trans mount and let the transmission tail drop down a little. Hopefully you'll be ok.

Installed a MGW on my Mustang 5.0 and it was awesome ! The best shifter experience I have ever had. I know they are not cheap but I don't think you will find a better shifter IF they will fit in your set up. They do shifters for vettes, vipers and mustangs. Again, not cheap but in my opinion, worth every penny....

I did not see this thread until I posted but glad you got the MGW. Great shifter and great customer service. The owner installed mine for no charge because he wanted to make sure it was done right. Convenient that he was a few hours away and worth the drive. Would be interested to see a report on it in your car. Mine was in a 2012 Mustang 5.0 and the boot was a little hard to get back in but that may not be a problem in your car.
