Default Tires??

What is the biggest size tire that I could fit on the back of a 95? I wanna go drag racing after I get the v8 in and I would like to fit a set of DOT drag radials and the smallest size I have found is a 205/50R14 will that fit? Kinda new to the miata world.

205/50-14 will fit no problem. I don't know what sizes are available, but you should be able to run a 225 tire as long as you don't go more than about 24" in diameter.

Isn't that will rolling the fenders, and maybe even pulling them? Also depending on offset of course.

If you're running a 15 inch wheel in the correct offset, without rolling and pulling liners you can fit the MT ET Street P225/50R15 on a 15 inch rim. Unfortunately nobody makes a 235 or 245 in a 45 series 15 inch DR. Nitto has a 245-50-16 but I think that it's probably too tall without mods.

What's the correct offset? MT has a ET Street 2 in 205/50R15 and a 205/50R14

I'm running the Konig Heliums 15" x 6.5" with 40mm offset. I'm fitting 225/50-15s all around and I only rub a little on the sway bar in the front. 205s would be perfect on that wheel.

My 99 has not been rolled and I'm running some 225/50/16's on Konig Brite Lites with no rubbing issues (it's close though) and they hook up pretty good, Wiz.

Where I ran into troubles with tire size was with height. With the stock bushings and control arms I would get enough flex that my tires would rub low on the front of the wheel wells. The tallest tire I would recomend is 25". The 235-60-15s are around 26.25" and probably won't clear without centering the tire in the wheel well. Even if they do clear they might not when you launch the car. After I got this far I realized that you might not have an NA like I do.

I forgot to add that I am running a 225-45-17 BFG Drag Radial on the rear and a 205-50-15 cooper zeon on the front. My best 60' is a 1.6, but I think it can be improved with practice.

I do have an NA, but if those tires go on the back end, the car will have flares on all 4 corners.

I have Racing Lifestyle flares sitting here.

Modeled after these-

If you are going the flare route, autokonexion is the way to go. I was VERY lucky to get the flares from RL, and it took over a month to get broken flares to me (good thing fiberglass work is easy)

The part of the wheel well that I rubbed on won't be covered by that flare.

cut it, refold it, weld it back together and put some bondo/fiberglass over it to smooth it out. I've been wondering about that area. Thanks for giving me an excuse to cut that area up!

I have been thinking about moving my subframe back to center it in the wheel well, but I am wondering how much of an impact it will make on weight transfer at the strip. It wouldn't be hard to do, just the cost of a longer drive shaft.

I hate to say it, but have you thought about an 8.8 or 9 inch? Do a torque arm setup on it and simple panhard bar.

I have given that a lot of thought. I still might take that path, but I don't think that I will until I decide that the car absolutely (another subject to ponder on) needs a cage. I think that the car is capable of high 9s with the new headers, tuning, and practice the way it sits with this rear end. One of these days they are not going to let me keep running at the track with the car the way it sits, and for good reason.
