Default Eliminating Miata ecu wiring- Ford

Moving along with my 5.0 conversion. All ready to tackle the wiring. Would like to get rid of the miata ecu/engine wiring. Do you just trace backwards from each engine connector? I've started to do this but have run into a few spots where engine connection wires are spliced into body wiring. Got me a bit stumped.

That is how I did mine. Went from the engine connector back down to the ECU connectors for the passenger side loom. I made sure not to remove any body wiring inside the car not associated with the ECU. There is a couple of ground blocks, etc. But if the other end of the wire was a Miata engine connector, I removed it.

Two things I learned, be careful not to cut out the washer fluid pump wires and connector. Also, if you are running A/C, be sure to connect the two A/C related wires at the ECU plug. I did neither and had to go back.

I simply cut off the diagnostic connector and air meter connector on the driver side loom but did not go into the car or loom to remove wires associated with them. Some day I will go back and do that too.

A Miata wiring diagram makes this job much less stressful as well...

Mike.

Thanks Mike. After giving it a little more thought, I think I'll simply rewrap the wiring and leave intact for now. As much as I wanted to attempt this with the engine bay empty, it makes more sense for a novice like me to get things running first and then tackle a cleanup later. Looks like I'll be able to hide most of it up in the fender anyways.
Will be installing the Ford harness this week when time permits.
