Default WTB T-5 Trans.

So I have a 93 302, have my 7.5 rear end and purchasing my kit next week. Just still trying to find a cheap transmission. I blew my money on what I thought was a good transmission but turned out to be a guy going around town ripping people off. end up getting a 98 3.2 trans. now I am running out of money on my budget and have no trans. please help.

I don't have a extra V8 t-5 to sell, but u may find a 4-cylinder '86-93 Mustang
T-5 relatively cheap. You have to machine special pilot beating/bushing to go in the end of the crankshaft as the 4-cyl. input shaft is longer and uses a diffferent bearing. The 4cyl.1st gear is quite low compared to the v8 one and most the ratios are different. Clutch splines are the same as is the driveshaft. The 4cyl. t-5 was sometimes put in a Must. 5.0 in a pinch, if u didn't have a immediate replacement. Didn' even change the pilot bearing as the taper in front of the input splines kind of located the input shaft.
Just a thought.

There's a pilot bearing available off-the-shelf at NAPA that does not require machining. Give me a day or two and I'll find the part number...

Look on Craig's List. My last Mustang GT T-5 (with a bellhousing) ran me only $150. Granted, that was a bit low but I'm sure you can find something similar.

Good Luck,
-Jason

yeah thats where I got this crappy v6 one guy said it was a 5.0 tranny and sold me a v6 delivered it to the house late at night should have known. Found a 4 cyl cheap at junk yard just let me know what the bearing is and how to get it in. So do I just need the bearing?

OK, here you go:

Conversion Pilot bushing-source: 1984 Ford Ranger

Carquest: BCA 202 FF
AutoZone: Motormite 14672 1984 Ford Ranger 2.2 diesel
Motormite 14657 SVO Mustang
Motormite 14367 ???
AdvanceAuto: #14665 ?

Keep in mind this is second hand data I pulled out of my research files that I have never used. I do know the ratios on a 4-cylinder trans are a bit high for a V8.

Good luck,
-Jason

Default pilot bearing

Goggled some more info about pilot brg to put a 4cyl t5 behind a 5.0.
-Motormite 14657 won't work(same as 2.3)
-Motormite 14672 will work(1984 Ranger 2.2 diesel)
-Federal mogul 202SS or FF?
-4 cyl. t5 ratios 3.97/2.34/1.46/1.00/0.79-3.70R (240lbs.ft)
-5.0 t5 ratios 3.35/1.99/1.33/1.00/0.68-3.15R (300lbs.ft)
Hope that helps.

ouch think I def wont a v8 t-5 but ok. Going to keep looking if nothing else I found a 4cyl for 200
If I go 4cyl route will need to still by a clutch flywheel pilot bearing and drive shaft will change then if I change it out later got to replace all that again and maybe get another drive shaft made.

I can make you an aluminum driveshaft if you want one.

The flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing and fork would all be the same. You would use 5.0 parts for all of those components since you'd be using a 5.0 bell housing.

Just talked to a buddy that said the 98 3.8 might work for the application is this true and what would. I need to make it work such as housing or bearings. I have the clutch and flywheel for it as well this would save me Anita of money.

I can always find a donor harness for you. I usually ask for a $150 down payment though if customers decide to go that route. If any of that is left after eBay and shipping to me I credit your account with the remainder. Most donor harnesses go for $75 to $125 or so. If you want one ASAP you pay a lot more, if you're willing to bid for a while you can get a good deal.

Anyone know if this will work? 98 3.8 behind a 93 302?

I think you may have to use a '94/'95 5.0 bellhouing due to the possibly longer input shaft. You may also have to be creative with your speedometer as the 6-cylinder transmissions do not have a provision for a mechanical VSS (I think).
